Limping along

My first Day of therapy on dry land ended with me trying my feet on the parallel bars. I was able to briefly stand and by briefly I mean less than 5 seconds. Regardless, I stood on dry land.

In other news I will be undergoing foot surgery next Friday. There are two broken chips from my talus that need to be either removed or bolted back into place. The doc will decide which after he slices me open. The surgery will take place at UAMS in Little Rock and will be outpatient surgery.

Progress in the deep end

Finally I walked. Granted, it was in the deep end of the pool with the assistance of a walker, but I did walk.

Stepping back a bit I have started therapy with Clint Crabtree at Levi Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The you see in this picture is kept at a constant 98* F and is fed from the mineral water coming out of the mountain behind the hospital. The pool therapy has been amazing.

I have made lots of progress since my last blog post; despite still being unable to walk, there is not a lot I cannot do by myself. My legs and back are getting stronger everyday, though I still deal with a lot of pain in both of them. My therapy’s are getting more intense every session and I am benefiting from it greatly.

Despite my progress I may still have one more surgery ahead of me. Tomorrow I will find out if my foot needs to be operated on. If it does, I will have the surgery at UAMS in Little Rock next Friday the 24th of July.
